I wish I thought of this back in May. What is the worst collection of clubs you have seen someone bringing to the course during Pandemic.

I’ve seen a lot of shit that’s not even craigslist worthy, even the Salvation Army wouldn’t carry it. Yesterday they guy I played with had a new Rogue driver but then it went downhill fast. I even said to him, do you have 2 clubs in there that are from the same set? Nope. I saw an Austads 3 wood, something that said “Tour Special” on a 5 wood... tiny heads. Irons, I saw 2 Wilson somethings, a Prima 3 iron, a Ping zing2 7 iron, a Ping Karsten 1 wedge. Some other shit in there with random names. I saw a Battlesticks club, a Tournament players club, his putter came from a mini golf place.

And he was not good. Did hit a couple nice drives though.

There is no excuse for a patchwork set. My recent thrift store find was a set of classic TA845s Silver Scot irons w/TT S300 shafts with a golf bag for $16.

Spent his whole wad on the driver.......thrift store supplied the rest. My current driver cost me $70, and my hybrid iron set was $75. Two wedges were $100, putter was $89, my 2 FW metals totaled $130. I've got $464 in my bag.

I've seen bags like that a few times. A new member of our Thurs night league has a bag just like that. Really old heavy leather bag and he carries it without a push cart. I think there are a few irons from a set, but it's a mashup of all different stuff: Tommy Armour, Maltby, Lynx, et al. And then there's the shiny M6 driver lol. He doesn't play much golf, but considering he drives like an $80K car you'd think he'd at least get a decent stand bag lol.

My 1st "set" was 2w, 3w, 7w, 3-pw, 60° & putter. I was 23-24, maybe. 60° was the only one I knew what the loft was and that was only because it said it on the club. Not one club had the same name as another on them. Then one of the pros let me make payments on a box set of Cougar Rhythms.

My first set of clubs was a Spalding kro flight. Can't even remember if I had a putter, but the irons were 3, 5. 7, 9. and 10.
Can't remember where I got my first bag, but I do know that it was Scotch plaid. It wasn't from the family because I was the first to try the game.
It was in 1967 when I was 15 and the set cost me $115, paid by my paper route earnings.
What others play has never concerned me. You play what you are able to play, but always keep your nose pointed to the ground. Never to the sky.

My first real set (post hand-me-downs), were Wilson Sam Snead Blue Ridge. 3, 5, 7, 9, w, putter. I think they were $79 at J. M. Fields in 1970.

Yeah, the collection of clubs I see going through there it’s no wonder it’s 6 hours for 18. I don’t care what everyone here’s first set of clubs was.... what do you guys see at courses now with these new “golfers “ was the question in my original post. It’s funny to look at the collections.

My first clubs were a complete set of Knight's. I think I paid $99 from a mail order catalog. Had to be the mid 90's.

My first set were Knight's too...model was Virage in the late 90s. Thinking I bought them from a sporting goods store, probably also about $99. Thought the 260 cc or so "titanium matrix" driver with steel shaft was sooo intimidating. Sign of the times - the 3W was 15° and 5W was 21°!

Probably the same set I had. Played them for a few years and then "upgraded" to a set of Top- Flight tours.

"My" first set I owned was a set of Golfworks that I built.

Up until then I started with a set my buddy loan me. I do remember Spalding, Slotline, Penna and Bullseye being in there.

Typhoon what do you guys see at courses now

I only see the clubs you describe donated to the Thrift shop across the street and occasionally put up for sale on the local Varage sale online site (usually by women cleaning out a garage and think they are worth something)
There are a couple of cheap courses near me, but have never seen anybody with anything like that and one of those courses is at a trailer park.

Sometimes I want to take pictures. Out crowd wouldn’t care, they’d laugh along with me.

It was funny how the exchange went yesterday...we were sitting on the bench on # 7 with his bag in front of us waiting for the 2 groups ahead of us to tee off🙄 and that when I said to him, “ do you even have 2 irons in there that are from the same set? He laughed and said, yeah I know...
