Shaft Clamp Advise

After a lot of use my Shaft Clamp has given out. It is an older Golfsmith Model and the rubber that holds the shafts in place has lost its holding ability. I can't get replacement rubber for it either. Golfworks has several options. Anyone have any pluses or minuses on any of their offerings. It will mainly get used for regripping clubs but will also get used for steel shaft removal. Because of this I want my next one to have a fairly tight grip on the shaft to prevent the shaft from twisting when I remove the heads. Any optins from other manufactures is welcome as well.

Try cleaning it with acetone. If that doesn't work just glue most any kind of thin rubber sheeting on it or a piece of inner tube. You can also get thin rubber sheets with adhesive backing from Amazon. Something like this maybe.

I think Rex made them also. I have one and it is awsome with a quick release lever.

I didn’t know which brother made the clamp, I got my shaft puller from Steve. Good stuff. His clamp reminded me of the golf smith quick release one.

SVonhof You could epoxy the metal to the metal on the clamp mechanism you have (if you wanted).

They do have those around that are magnetic, and are used for clamping in bench vises. If he would epoxy one to his clamp, he would be unable to adjust, from what I'm seeing in his pics.

Yeah, that thing is toast. Probably time to do what all old FGI/Golfbuzz members always fall back on....buy new! 😆
If I still had all the tools for my set up, I'd make you one. It had some sticky jaws that won't wear out....

Mine is not bench mount like that pic, but rather has a stem that clamps in my vice. Either way, the mechanism is sturdy and quick. The adjustment is made by turning a threaded nut and is easy and infinite for any shaft thickness.

Maybe get one of these and split it so that you have 2 replacement pieces?

I use s $20 irwin wood worker's vise from Lowes and a rubber shaft clamp. I use it to flo with 2 pcs of oak with a groove down the center.

It gets dusty out inthe garage! It has been about a year since it was last cleaned. It's been too hot in the garage to do any extra work out there! Minus the rubber going bad it functions great.

Epoxying half of the clamp would not render it un-adjustable as the adjustment is in the screw and nut (nut locks the position in). I assume the front plate is tack welded onto the standard pivot ball or similar.
