For years and years I have struggled with direction and distance control chipping and pitching from around the green with the traditional stiff wrist back and through motion. A couple months ago out on the course I tried a few shots with almost all wrist hinge very little arm swing. Basically I am addressing the ball then slightly swinging the arms back but mostly hinging the wrists to lift club up. Then stopping the down swing at impact and basically flipping the wrist. It has resulted in the best chipping of my life. Most chips come out low with lots of spin but check and end up pretty close every time. I still need more work on distance control on the higher flop type shots as i tend to hit them too hard right now, but I have shaved strokes off my game with this technique.
The course I play has very small greens so there are lots of opportunities to chip and it has made a big difference in scoring. Plus I have chipped in more in the last couple months then I have in several years combined.
