We had a metal box on the back porch. You put your empty bottles in the box and the next morning they would be replaced with full cold ones. Most residential streets when I grew up had a mom and pop grocery on one corner and a tavern on another. The grocery also had a young boy who did all of the manual work and made deliveries on a tricycle that had a large basket on the back. We finally got a Krogers supermarket nearby.
