Been four times, and love it. Have always stayed on site (The Inn or Lily Pond), makes everything convenient. Food is good. Dinner and drinks at McKee's almost exclusively, so cannot comment on other places for dinner. Breakfast at one of the places in the Lodge (cannot recall the name) was always good - lunch was usually eaten on the course.
I love Pacific Dunes and the original Bandon Dunes. Old MacDonald is nice too. Bandon Trails I've only played once - nice enough course, just not why we go there (lacking the ocean us land-locked people enjoy). Never played the Sheep Ranch or the Preserves - they were not there the first two times I went, and later we just didn't stay long enough to venture from the main three (Pacific, Bandon, Old Mac). Shorty's is a great practice facility pre-round, and there is a pitch and putt there as well if you cannot fit another 9 or 18 in - we would take a few clubs and a few beers and have nice little 'games' there later in the day.
The fairway grass is true to links golf, and the conditions are the most like St. Andrews that I've ever experienced. I've been asked which is better and I'll always contend that there is so much nostalgia at St. Andrews that it is an unfair comparison - but purely on the golf, I prefer Bandon. Enjoy it, I'm jealous!
