This is somewhat surprising to me. I thought Fox Sports did a decent job after the first couple of years with figuring out how to best deliver a decent experience for home viewers. I thought some of their technology enhancements really added to the product. It just seemed to have a fresher, cleaner feel to it.
I think a lot of sports networks are coming to grips with a different reality due to the pandemic. Advertising, sponsorships, etc. all factor into the bottom line, and although many fans are anxiously awaiting for sports to make a normal return, that still seems like a distant concern at this stage.
It's worth noting that NBC is making out pretty well with only having to assume half of the rights fees for the remainder of the contract duration. That's a sizable chunk of money saved.
