You bring up a good point Scott.
This crossed my mind while playing with the same fast group all the time in AZ. It was customary to take no time reading putts or anything like that. Just step up and whack it. I definitely putted worse. I'm all for cutting time off the round, but my eyes aren't good enough to read slopes by just walking up to the ball and hitting. Of course those guys have played the same course for several years, so they might not see any benefit from trying to get more info on the putts.
If pros had to putt like that, they'd make a lot fewer putts IMO. If we expect to make putts, we need to get better reads somehow. We are not going to do what the pros do. But imagine if you had greens books with the pins precisely located, a caddy, etc. I have long felt that if you show me the guaranteed line, I can make the putt.
Yesterday I could not buy a putt. None. I was still doing the AZ routine, ie nothing. LOL.
