I taught myself how to change a bathroom fan. Watched a YouTube video on how to do it. Tried every screwdriver I own and couldn't take the screws out of the fan. I was going to buy a new universal fan motor.
After the frustration of not being able to take the screws out I went back to YouTube after figuring out what fan manufacturer was in use and found out taking out the motor is not what you do.
Removed housing and saw the fan was filthy. Cleaned up the fan, blew it out, and plugged it into a regular outlet. Kicked right back on but was a little sticky at first. WD-40'd it and reinstalled the housing and the fan works like it did before.
I've learned with YouTube your exact specific situation is imperative to understanding how to do something. I almost bought a universal fan motor because I didn't know all I needed was to pop out the housing. No clue the fan and housing were a single unit that was replaceable.
It's very enjoyable learning things you are not good at. I recently swapped out a GFCI using the YouTube method.
