Plumbing......The other day my wife noticed that the toilet in the downstairs lavatory was barely leaking out the bottom. It was installed 2 years ago when we had a new floor put in. So, I called a plumber....a guy who we've had before. He had other jobs going on, but finally came, pulled the toilet, decided the wax ring had been compromised by the flooring guys (who had pulled the toilet to re-do some of the flooring). He put in a new wax ring (whole thing took about 20 minutes tops) and charged me.......$5 bucks for the wax ring! I about fell over!!!
Fast forward a few hours.....our son was passing though town to spend the night. So, we're sitting in our den talking and he looks at the ceiling above my wife's usual chair and says "what's leaking upstairs?" We look up and can see water marks where the wall meets the ceiling.....the toilet is obviously leaking in an UPSTAIRS bathroom. So, he says "I can fix it for you." It was obviously the shut-off valve that had a slow drip and corrosion all over it. So, he and I pull the toilet, make a trip to the local hardware store, buy a new valve, flexible line, and a wax ring, since he wanted to pull the toilet in order to replace the valve. So, after an hour or so's work, it's fixed. Price.....about $25 bucks.
So, in one day, I've had TWO plumbing problems fixed for a grand total of about $30......WHEW!!!
