OK, to wrap up the IRS part of this story......did some researching, and here's what happened.
For no reason whatsoever, in September 2020, the IRS decides to refund me the taxes I paid with my 2019 return. A check from the IRS shows up - and I think it is the 2nd stimulus payment (when in reality, we mistakenly did not get the 2nd stimulus). The funny thing is, the IRS system says the 2019 tax refund was done as a result of an amended return dated 08/02/21. Yes, that is right, my 2019 return was apparently amended NEXT MONDAY since this is 07/30/21.
So I do have to payback the 2019 taxes that they mistakenly sent back, and then I have to file an amended 2020 return to correct the fact that they did not send me the 2nd stimulus.
That was a not fun complete waste of 5 hours figuring all that out.
