It's been done for 100 years or longer. We would also use human concoctions on horses, but had to be very careful of ingredients that may be banned for use on race days. 1 trainer found out that Absorbine Jr. was a costly decision.
I've seen guys take horse aspirin....'bute', for aches/pains/headaches.
If you want instant relief from any pain, get some DMSO. Rub it on....4 seconds later it is in your system, no pain.
And you got garlic breath.
Covering up pain does not fix why you have the pain though. You can really injure yourself doing such with the masking. I never did it with my horses, nor do I do it to myself.
