My wife retired from her position with the regional hospital complex as a laboratory supervisor Thursday. My daughters planned a surprise retirement dinner for her that evening and they attended via ZOOM from Lexington, KY and Columbia, SC. Last night the hospital funded a retirement dinner for all of the lab employees that took special dispensation from the execs to proceed after being assured the facility was large enough and the food/beverage services would all be served with an emphasis on social distancing.
So today I get to chill while she goes to a hen party with her friends for another celebration. It is easy to see from the memory book and gifts that she will be missed and not only respected by her employees but loved as well. She came home Thursday night with puffy eyes from the tears after saying her good-byes but what a rewarding career she had to manage everyone from phlebotomists to microbiologists. She's also leaving a lasting legacy in our community with a program she implemented to train future employees with guaranteed jobs upon graduation (if they can pass the screens) through our local tech college.
Now she turns her attention to managing me. 😁
