backinit About 10 feet behind me is busy Rt 1.
Took a trip up Rt 1 back in 1977. Beautiful ride along the coast of Maine. Got all the way up to Camden. They were filming a remake of Captains Courageous there.
Rockport is just below there and that’s where Andre the famous seal would swim to for the summer from the Boston Aquarium. Couldn’t do that now with all the seals attracting the Great Whites.
We had a Bait and Tackle shop in the late 60’s and we sold sea worms that were from Wiscasset on Rt. 1. Also, remember going by the state prison in Thomaston. Lol
Had family in Cumberland and spent a summer there when I was 12. Used to go to LL Bean in Freeport as well. When we lived in Haverhill MA. we’d go shopping (outlet shops) in Kittery. Nice memories of Maine.

“André was a harbor seal who spent his winters at the New England Aquarium in Boston and his summers in Rockport Harbor. Every spring for over 20 years the Seaquarium would release him and André would swim north to Rockport (150+ miles). It was always a high point for local residents when he reappeared. He was the honorary harbor master.”
