Sparky All the planning did no good two years ago, hoping for better luck this time.
Well, the stars aligned this time around, and I made it to the Highland Course at Primland. Stunning. Amazing. This top 100 public course lives up to the billing.
Pics coming later when I can download them all.
Got off the plane in Charlotte at 4:15 am. Didn't get out of the airport until 5:30am. Drove north, debating the whole time whether to take the chance, as thunderstorms were forecast for 1pm off and on all afternoon. Primland has gated access, and the pro shop doesn't open until 8am, so they told me to call after 8 to get access. You leave the freeway, and head off into the middle of nowhere. Then you drive another 20 miles deeper into nowhere. I made it to the south gate at 8:05am, pulled out my phone to find NO CEL SERVICE! Fortunately, amazingly, someone pulled up behind me who got the gate open, and I tailgaited in. And you still have another 6-7 miles driving further into nowhere, and up pops this incredible golf paradise.
Walked into the proshop at 8:30, asked if they could fit a single in. They said go when you are ready, next group isn't until 9:45. So off I went as a single at 9:00. I don't like playing new courses as a single, much prefer the company, and the helpful information about putting, ball searching, etc. But it did give me ample time to look around and admire the scenery. Finished a bit after noon. Played through one twosome, half a dozen deer, and two wild turkey.
The clouds were rolling in as I finished, but it was a beautiful morning. Now I am sitting in my hotel in Roanake watching thunderstorms for the last 2 hours.
