Well... I've watched some pretty good Ryder Cup battles over the years, going all the way back to the mid 1980's. I remember most of them pretty well... there were some memorable ones.
But I've never seen anything like Reed vs McIlroy in the singles. That was just a level that I've never seen met in Ryder Cup play since I've been tuning in. And it was fantastic... loved the emotion, the friendly back-and-forth. Reed was undoubtedly the American stud for the week. He's got quite the reputation already in just his second event.
That said, Mickelson vs Sergio was also up there, one of the all-time best I've seen. I gotta give Phil some credit - he could've succumbed to the self-induced pressure from his comments earlier in the week, but he just displayed an all-time performance Sunday. And you also have to say the same for Garcia, because they definitely forced the other to bring their very best, start to finish.
Very memorable weekend, and not just because the US won. There was some great golf played, especially Saturday and Sunday. I hated to see Jimmy Walker struggle, he's had a terrific season and is definitely a world-class player and deserved to be on the team. He just had an off week and unfortunately it happens. It is very rare that all 12 guys play solid golf all three days.
Brandt Snedeker - great contributor. Very solid week, very underrated Ryder Cupper imo. And for Ryan Moore to go eagle-birdie to take the lead outright on the closing stretch of holes after being down most of the day... what a thrilling way to step up and deliver like that.
You gotta wonder however if this might be the last one for a few regulars... Mickelson and Zach Johnson most notably.
Well done, Davis Love III. Congrats to you and the team on a great week!
