Heading down to Orlando, staying at the Gaylord Hotel. I won't have a car. Saw that they have a shuttle that takes u to Celebration Golf course. Us it nice? Anybody here play it? Anything else around there?.

My dream course to play down there is Grand Cypress Nuxklaus course. I lived down there working at Disney when I was young and lived in Kissimmee. A lot has changed from back then.

I used to play the Disney courses when they had only 3 and Grand Cypress was just built.

Celebration is a really nice place.
Another place fairly near there is Mystic Dunes, designed by Gary Koch. I've played there a couple of times and it is all right.
I live on the east coast from there and am more familiar with some courses further east.
Royal St. Cloud in St. Cloud is a pretty friendly place with 3 nines and Harmony Golf Preserve is re-opening this weekend after a million dollar renovation. New TIf Eagle greens and renovated fairways. Should be nice as they layout is fun to play.

Too much hassle to get a Florida Driver's License for the "residents rate"

I was down there a couple years back. We played Metro-West, which I really enjoyed... the others we played were private clubs, so not sure that would help you much. We did play the Remington Club, which is public... but it wasn't overly nice. It was a budget course, our head pro went down with us and his father works a few days per week there at Remington, so we got to play for cart-fee only. Nothing memorable for sure.

Metro West was a really fun layout, lots of interesting holes, not a typical Florida golf course by any means. Depending on the time of year - conditions probably ebb and flow, but I would think they're pretty good this time of season. It was in great shape when we played it, although it was in February when we were down there.

PS - I have a timeshare there in Orlando at Orange Lake Resort, and there are two courses there. One course is cheap and more for leisurely golfers, but the other course is a Signature Palmer course. Haven't played it, but have driven by several of the holes on the way to the condo and it looks extremely nice. It also gets great reviews.

I guess it really depends where exactly you're staying, might be difficult to get to Metro West or the Signature Palmer course without transportation.

The current owner of my home course used to own Celebration. He's a retired (1969) NHL player (David Creighton). He had no intention of selling it, but was made an offer he couldn't refuse ($11 million). I ride by it every time I go to the east coast of Florida. It looks nice and know people who have played it and said it's a nice course.

I also loved the Disney courses, but they sold the management of the courses to Arnold Palmer's company. Loved Osprey Ridge, but heard it no longer exists as they built condos or something on it. Hopefully the weather will moderate a little for your trip.

I remember them building Osprey Ridge....damn, built condos on it. Gives me the hee bee gee bees when an old course becomes condos. They did that to Powderhorn GC in Lexington. Used to play there as a kid. Now I drive through and still am able to see a lot of the old layout....just freaks me out. Just like seeing a boat out of water.

    Anyway I digress...

Orange Lake...hahaha....Rick McCord still the pro there? Played there when I used to visit my buddy Mike that lived there.

Thanks for the area choices guys! Celebration is probably a definite then I'll see where else I can get to.

We go there every November. We always enjoy the courses at Orange County National. Reunion has three good courses. Champions Gate is another place with two good courses. Champions Gate has a new third course that we liked even better - ChampionsGate Country Club. Its not on the same property but is ran by the same management company.

Mystic Dunes is good too. We play 36 so we tend to goto places that have multiple courses (obvious from above) and haven't played it much.

Most are not too far from Disney.
