Worn out hole

So at my club the hole has been in the same place since November. Area around the hole is dreadful for keeping a putt online. We suggested to the greens keeper at the end of the year to cut 2 or 3 holes if they planned on some winter play so it wouldn’t look like this.

They blew off our suggestion.

The first private club I ever joined did the alternating holes thing in the winter months. Not so much because of the holes wallowing out, but to more evenly distribute the stress and fatigue from the traffic on the greens. It did help. They had those greens in great shape no sooner than the season kicked off.

The area 10' around the hole is brown from wear. You can't make a short putt, the ball goes everywhere.

I haven't seen any courses with two holes in many years but I always liked the concept. Just pull the pin from one hole and put it in the other. Speeds up play and no pins left laying on the greens.

Looks like the hooker from my buddies stag after she finished the nite.....good thing about being the best man, you get to sample the merch first and make sure all is as it should be....how bad could it be with a 27 year old 😉

If they’d show me how! Not exactly a Mensa group there. Kid driving the Gator at 100 mph across the course over all the bumps with all the branches and shit in the back falling out leaving a trail.

or the mower that leaks oil but he cuts 3 greens with it and leaves dead stripes for the next 3 months...

Yep, our club cuts 2 holes on each green for the Winter months - works like a champ for
great Spring and early Summer play. That is neglect.

Our temporary winter greens look that bad, but we only have them on the front 9 and the back is closed. It's honestly a bit hard to putt on the winter greens, but if you're lucky enough to not have snow in the winter you're just glad to be out there. This is the first year I can remember that I've played golf in Nov, Dec, Jan and Feb. Pretty sure I will get March rounds in as well. Many years I've gone 5 months without being on a course.

I was just posting that pic in the “course pics” thread. All those lovely courses...and then mine.

inwas saying I wish someone would post that pic on their Facebook page where they say “course is open and looks great!”

People actually pay $ to play this track? I hope it's cheap. One of our 3 courses is kept in what I would call upperclass goat track, but what you describe sounds worse.

There’s one around here we used to call the cow pasture. Fairway grass so deep you would lose balls, ball marks never repaired leaving greens too bumpy to putt on, and kids runnin wild everywhere on golf carts. Thankfully a new super fixed all that a few years ago.......
