Not quite sure what you mean by "hot" irons, perhaps the ones with multi material faces.
i am playing Titleist 718 ap1, just having switched over from using Ping I5 for a few years and before that Ping I20's for 4 or 5 years. The 718 are not multi material face, just a normal club design.
They are however a full club different by loft , design is slightly different ( more weight low in the ap1 and a sort of pocket cavity .....both Pings were probably a slight bit larger head.
so a 9 with my Pings is now a PW with the AP1, a 4 iron with the Pings a 5iron with the AP1 and so on and so forth. Yes of course I hit the new, stronger lofted clubs further however, without question I hit them the same height , it might even be a tad higher but minimal ( with a lower loft). All using stiff shafts. I kept the Ping i20 AW bent it to 52 and put KBS 610 wedge shaft in it and it launches pretty much the same as my 47 degree Titleist aw, just that the latter travels 10-20 yards further
The long irons are also very high launching. I alternate the 21* 4iron with a Ping G400 19* hybrid. Both launch high and go far use them for distances of 210 -225 , but I find the 4 iron a bit easier to control and can work it better. I can play a nice high cut with the 19* hybrid and hit a straight shot but am unable to turn it over. What I can do with it is tee it low and hit a bullet shot that will get out to 225-235. I find this head very "hot"
I'm 58 with a swing speed that is probably in the 100-105 range , handicap of 8.6 , aggressive tempo and really hit hard thru the ball so generate lots of spin which helps get the ball in the air.
