DonM Martin, what kind of roll out do you average with the driver?
It depends on course conditions - right now (with the course baked out - most of the fairways are closer to white than green), it's pretty normal to get 50-60 yards of run, but that becomes more like 15-20 in typical autumn/winter conditions. I do play on a links-type course, though, where the ground will typically be firmer than on an inland course.
Eguller Great point. I can no longer compete effectively in our club championship from the 'tips', but we have a
scratch match play ( with appropriate tees ) where I lost a couple of years ago to a 25 yo soon to be pro
on the 19th hole in the final. Fun stuff, but these days, I've retired to hit & giggle most of the time. 🏌
That reminded me of a game that I had a few months back - played with the son of one of the regulars in our Sunday sweep, who's an assistant pro at one of the local clubs and has a game that (at its best) wouldn't look out of place in a pro tournament. There were a couple of occasions where he was hitting 5 clubs less than me from the same distance, but I ended up with a lower score than him on the day.
