Walterjn Stupid question... what are the lofts on the clubs the pros are using?? We all know their ss is faster than ours. Why not relegate them to running clubs with older lofts? Wouldn't that keep them from hitting balls further? That wouldn't effect the amateur and hackers that play
Not a stupid question at all. The pros play weaker lofts for the most part as it is. Not as weak as years past, but not as strong as game improvement clubs us hackers play.
For driver they could mandate shorter shafts, smaller club heads etc.. But the cost for manufacturers to retool would be expensive. We’ve had this discussion adnauseam. They don’t have to do anything equipment wise.
If they really want par to be respected, just narrow the fairways, grow the rough, and make the greens as receptive as a concrete parking lot.
They keep using excuses like preserving water and not being able to lengthen courses etc.. Many courses use reclaimed water already. Toughening up the courses solves the length issue.
People like to see scoring in all sports. In golf they like to see birdies. They can’t mandate athletes getting more athletic.
Limiting the equipment seems like an exercise in futility. The best athletes / golfers will still be the best no matter how hard they try to limit their athleticism thru equipment.
