mikeintopeka I have had a handful of Mazdas through the years, from an RX7 to the 3 and the 6. I came oftly close to buying the CX-5, but wound up with a Forester Turbo because I really liked the extra power. For reference, I drove the BMW X3, Mercedes GLC and GLA, Rav 4, Ford Escape and had a company GMC Terrain as comparisons. The CX-5 was in the running for the best interior, even amongst the luxury cars, it had better driver assist features than any of the others I drove, it lacked a little in power, but arguably was the best handling of the bunch, though that really depends on what you like.
My wife and I are looking for a bigger SUV now, the CX-9 is a helluva value. You get nice finishes, pretty nimble handling and good looks for a bargain compared to the competition, my only complaint is we are "spirited" drivers and the base level is only FWD, it has entirely too much torque steer for somebody who gets after it, AWD is an absolute must in that vehicle (for us) and its not the easiest thing to find.
We have settled on an Audi Q7, it is a really exceptionally well rounded vehicle if you need the space. The Q5 is a near perfect vehicle if you don't. We currently have a Porsche Macan which is a fantastic vehicle, but the price point is far too high. We snagged a heck of a deal, but still paid way more than any vehicle is worth (in my book).
Fortunately, you sound more reasonable than my wife haha, I would buy Mazda with confidence.
