Back before the adjustable loft era, I struggled with launch angle because my homemade swing was much flatter than most other players. Trajectory wasn't unplayably low, but there were times when I was really forced to alter my setup to achieve any meaningful height, and more often than not that led to less-than-good contact.
Back during that time, not even Ping had lofts that went above the standard 10.5ยบ (for men).
One day while at a golf shop, I noticed a used Ping L-series ladies driver. It was 14ยบ, and although I would be required to replace the shaft with a men's stiff flex, it was inexpensive enough to make it worth a try. That lady's driver ended up being the most reliable driver I've ever played. I added 1/2 inch to the standard shaft length at the time, which I think brought it up to 45 inches.
The guys in my group made all manners of fun, but when I cranked out a nice little tight draw on the very first hole the first round I played it, roughly 265 yards or so, they were like, "Holy sheet. Let me see that thing." Of course, I was LH and they were all righties, but they stopped cracking jokes about it in no time at all.
It was basically an oversized strong 3wood with a driver-length shaft. I didn't care one iota that it was a lady's driver. It was a fairway finder, and it offered me another 10-15 yards of reliable distance.
