I thought y'all might get a kick out of this.
A few games back, I was about to head to the course when I picked up one of my old putters with a flat, Two Thumbs style grip on it (The Wizard). I had putted with my hands side-by-side for a bit of time with a Two Thumbs grip and quite liked it. Unfortunately, I had put The Wizard on a putter that had a head that it turned out I really didn't like. So, I thought, "Hey, why don't I pull that grip and put it on a mallet-style head? I chose the Frankly Frog because it was so different from the blade-style putter I was struggling with a bit.
Down to my shop. Pull, pull, pull, yankitty, yank, yank. Ah, there we go, The Wizard has been freed. Now, all I have to do is put it on Frankly Frog. However, since I'm about to play, I don't want to use any lubricant and risk it being loose. I'm sure it will slide on with a bit of air and elbow grease. Pushity, push, push...push, push, push...pus...pu...p. Oh, f_ckity, f_k, f__k. This thing's really stuck. I had only got the grip on about 4-5 inches, and there was no way I could move it either on or off.
Well, maybe I'll just take a hack saw and cut half the grip off off, at the top of the shaft. So, that's what I did. I went out and played with it, with the grip being barely long enough for me to put my hands on it. Lo and behold, it felt really comfortable and I putted really well for me. The grip was biting into the pad of my hand a bit, so after the game, I went down to my shop, cut the finished top part off the wasted part of the grip (which I had thrown in the garbage), and glued and taped it onto the grip to make it about an inch longer.
I LOVE this thing. I'm sure things will change, but I haven't putted this well since I was really young. It's going to stay in the bag, warts and all, until it starts acting up and I have to resume my search for magic.
