mikeintopeka Shanahan's decision to run out the clock and sit on a tie going into the locker room at half was a head scratcher. You beat the Chiefs by outscoring them. I was at a party so I didn't hear the talking heads in the booth but the camera catching the 49ers GM flashing the 'time-out' sign before the Chiefs punted was telling. However after running clock, Garoppolo's pass downfield to Kittle could have given SF much needed momentum with the lead until it was wiped away with a controversial offensive PI call.
That was a head scratcher....although I suspect it was to avoid a 3 and out and giving the ball back to KC. Being up 10 at half, they were in good spot, and I bet Shannahan was content with that.
And I'm pretty sure KC called TO after the 2nd down run play, prior to the pass to Kittle before the end of half 1. Almost came back to bite them. The OPI, although weak, was a good call. I wish the NFL would just call the game, as the rules are set forth, without needing to "emphasize" certain rules each year. IMO when they "emphasize" rules = more flags. If no flag was thrown, would they have reviewed and overturned? Likely not.
Jimmy G is a solid QB, but he/SF are reliant on the run game big time, and play action off of that. Lots of holes in that offense if teams can stop/slow down the run.....and that is what KC did!
KC overcame another double digit lead.....comeback kids!
