Tinker Put an adjustable driver in a loft lie device and try adding or subtracting loft without affecting lie or face angle.
You can't change loft without face angle. You can change both of those without changing lie angle, though, with the right adapter design.
Many drivers now have rounded soles with the right contour so that no matter what angle the shaft comes out of the hosel at, the driver wants to sit square faced when you hold the shaft normally. That's how they get their magic loft change.
I've played these drivers, I've measured them in L/L gauges, etc. None of what I'm saying is theoretical or guesses.
If you like an open driver, there are several out there now that like to sit open. My 915D2 is one of them.
