Par4QC I run AdBlocker Plus and it must work because I didn't even know GolfBuzz had ads. HOWEVER, I'm going to turn mine off right after I finish this post because Par4's comment is absolutely right.
Ads are annoying, but they are the reason we get "free" access to information. We not only accept them in print media, but we actually pay a cover cost to view them (oh, and the articles). Finding a way to block the creator's stream of income is basically finding a way to steal his/her time, effort, and expertise. It really boils down to "Don't like the site, don't visit the site." It's quite simple.
That being said, I would suggest that site owners be a bit cautious about their advertising strategy. There are plenty of alternative sites out there, regardless of the content area you are in. When I remove AdBlocker, I simply won't continue visiting sites where the advertising is intrusive: one pop-up ad (the bane of the Internet) and I'm out of there (which, I suspect, is going to bring my porn viewing way down). But if a site just has ads down the side of the page or an odd one in middle of the thread, so be it. Tolerating them is my thanks to the site's owner for creating a site that I like and giving it to me for free.
P.S. If you don't hear from me after I disable my ad blocker, you'll know GolfBuzz has pop-ups. It's been nice knowin' y'all. 🙂
