Toulon
It's pointless to pretend to know that Luck had years in front of him. We can agree, (I hope) that he knows the state of his injuries and overall health better than anyone. Like I stated earlier, he walked away from a lot of potential money, hundreds of millions. Outside of health reasons, why else would he retire?
The timing can be debated back and forth. It's just water-cooler discussion. What can't be debated is that he felt (at this time, who knows if he stays retired..) that the quality of his life and health are more important than anything he could ever hope to achieve on the field. Dude has been plagued with injuries for so long that he naturally feels cursed. So despite the solid season he had last year, he was still dealing with substantial shoulder pain. And then the trifecta of injuries that occurred with his calf, ankle, achilles, etc.
Who in their right mind could blame the guy?
"I've been stuck in this process. I haven't been able to live the life I want to live. It's taken the joy out of this game. The only way forward for me is to remove myself from football. This is not an easy decision. It's the hardest decision of my life. But it is the right decision for me." ~ Andrew Luck
Who cares what anyone else thinks. That's been my point. Whether it's a discussion that lives a short existence or is talked about for decades, it doesn't matter.
The only thing that matters is what Luck thinks. Regardless of him retiring early or staying on and continuing to be plagued with injury after injury - some fans would still resent him. That's what some fans do. They're called fanatics for a reason and don't have the final say-so in the things that matter most. Same goes with this knee-jerk shitweaseling media. They love you today, hate you tomorrow. The beat goes on.
