Some of you will laugh at me for not having this shot. A lot of you are probably like me though, and don't play it.
The long 7 iron bump and run. I've been in this situation so much this season. 30 yards or so out, playing up to a front pin. If I pitch to the green, there is no spin, and the ball ends up in the back of the green leaving a 60 foot downhill putt. I've been hitting a lot of high pitches with the face somewhat open; almost flop shots. But by the time I leave enough margin for error, I'm still ending up well past the pin.
My club has a place, a pitching area, to practice this shot along fairway height grass to a "green" that is also mowed at fairway height, so it's not quite the same as playing to a normal green. But I was surprised how easy it was to make this shot work. I was covering the little green with yellow range balls. I am going to start using it out on the course.
