I didn't realize that everyone out there was still hitting 3,4,5 irons, to be complaining about jacked lofts. Usually if a player can hit those irons, they are also hitting quite long with driver. It would seem, they would seldom be hitting those irons, if ever. Except maybe on Par 5 holes.
Then again, I will only be using 8-PW, for the most part, so WTF do I know. 😜
imo, the lofts may be jacked, but also the way the iron is now manufactured leads to more distance(??), compared to similar lofts of years gone by. ex., when I 1st played the M1 irons, I had a pitch that I will have a few times per round. When I used the same #ed club as usual, it flew the green instead of landing on front edge, as would be normal for the shot I made. The loft diff was only 1, in the 2 clubs and that would not make that much difference(about 20 yds.). Not every club showed that type performance, but it did make me think about, and look at, the different lofts per mfgrs.. Wilson is the crazy lofts company, and probably the one that started it all. Cobra jumped right in, but lately, has backed off a bit.
I don't have the problem with 'jacked' lofts. Using only short irons let's me off the hook. And, I won't be buying any sets that contain anything over, maybe, 8i. Unless I try SL.
