Here's my take on this topic which is always bantered about. This is a case study on my own swing with driver. 70 years old decent flexibility more so than my peer group. No ill health issues other than vision that has gone to crap over the last 7 years (yellow golf balls seem to help). 86-88 mph driver swing speed with 44" to 44.50" playing length driver. 1.4 sec. transition time, +AofA with a medium height tee level, 14 deg. launch angle w/ 11.5 deg driver. Shafts I tend to use are 55g to 65g "A" or "R" flex depending on shaft profile low kick 4.0 torque (OG SK Fiber Pure Energy "R", Swing Science Series 200 "A" to "R", Alpha Platinum wood "A" to "R". Average carry and roll is 190 to 200 yards that's real not WRX related BS on average muni turf. Fairways are starting to dry out some but overall with our average rain fall in upper midwest fairways are never ultra firm or fast.
Last weekend, I used a Swing Science FC-One A driver with a Swing Science Series 200 "R" 44.25" played it neutral 10.5 deg. on Sat. opened it up to 9.5 deg. 2.5 deg. open face angle to see if it would facilitate my fade more off the tee. I launch the ball high enough so low cuts weren't an issue. Used an MG Senior (illegal USGA) ball. I don't post scores.
Comparison to my normal driver GS Hi-COR Plus 11.5 deg. .05 closed face angle 44" SK Fiber PE "R". Play a high fade off tee fairways hit about same 75%. Distance slightly different about 10 yards more with the SS FC-One slightly lower launch bit more run out might be ball or lower loft and open face angle with spin.
Thoughts. If your fairways are fast and running I could see a suggestion of trying a lower loft driver if it can be controlled. That's the issue with many in that as they lower loft they add more side spin and can be off line more. In that, I play a more controllable driver at 44" to 44.50" I don't have that issue.
Next week, I will try a Swing Science FC-One Plus 14 deg. .05 closed face angle at 44.50" to compare.
