I know we've all seen this.

I sent a package to a Buzzer near South Bend. I'm in Illinois. It went to one of the Chicago area centers, then Gary IN, then down to Indianapolis, then back up to South Bend, then to his town's post office. It added at least two days.

I had something coming to me from Atlanta. It went to three different Chicago area centers before coming down to my post office. Again it added two days. The address was perfect.

What the heck causes that to happen? Is it software, hardware, or people?

Don---I see the same thing with USPS 1st Class letter. Going to an address in my city Madison, WI....mailed main post office Madison....goes to Milwaukee, WI sorted and back to Madison then delivered. USPS carriers that I know say that it's cut back in personnel and the way USPS routes letters/parcels now. A letter took one day in-state WI and now takes 3 days minimum. I think your situation is more typical than an outlier.

DonM yeah, I kept checking for updates and couldn't believe it. If im not mistaken it went to Indianapolis twice. Next time, I'll just drive to you. 🤣

I’m seeing the same thing. Purchased something off of eBay this week. Shipped USPS from around Knoxville, TN 07/17 and the package in now in Seattle, WA! Seems to have bypassed Iowa in route to get to Iowa. Expected delivery is listed as 07/22, but I have my doubts that it will be delivered on Monday.

Logistics... some area hubs aren't staffed/equipped like they used to be. I don't know why we still have a local post office - it's only open 6 hours per day. Every time I go in there to get stamps or to mail a package, it seems the lobby window is closed. There's another post office about 5 minutes away that is the central hub for our area anyway, so it seems redundant to have two of them in such close proximity.

And too - our local postal service has been delivering packages from Amazon now for about a year or so, which adds to the demand. I don't know if Amazon has acquired their services on a contractual basis, but I have seen official USPS mail delivery trucks delivering Amazon packages on Sundays, so I'm assuming that to be the case. Those Amazon packages might be getting priority if that's indeed the case.

Our USPS carrier drops off the Amazon purchases during the week and then parks his truck at the end of the block and starts walking his routes from there. So, I'll get two deliveries from USPS within an hour of each other. Yes, Amazon gets priority handling.

Well, I’m amazed ... my order was delivered this morning - even with the weekend trip to From TN to WA.

d5n03 See, that's crazy. I would simply like to know if it's a machine sorting error or what. My best guess is that something gets a wrong turn off the conveyor during the sorting process.

But, I do not ever recall seeing this kind of routing error with UPS. Probably I have and just don't recall. But nothing like USPS.
