The leather grip thread made me think about golfers that do not use golf gloves. We discuss this from time to time.

What is the best golf grip-rubber soft-medium-firm that stay tacky and not slippery in your personal opinion especially the GB'ers that do not use golf gloves.

The last few years, I have been using the PURE Pro and Star Sidewinder both very close in grip-tion and what I would term a velvet grip that is medium-firm and stay tacky after cleaning every few weeks and last longer than GP Tour Velvet and others of that ilk.

I generally don't use a golf glove.

What's your take?

I had been using Win Dritac oversize for a few seasons. With "Arthur" in both thumbs I was looking for an even better grip. I switched to the Avon Chamois II Jumbo grips. They are a totally different compound than the original Chamois grips. They are very soft and sticky. I do wear gloves usually on both hands, the Bionic Relief Golf Gloves.

The Chamois II take a bit of a different installation technique if you use air. I dip the grip mouth in mineral spirits and squeeze it on the shaft. I then put my protector tube over the grip. Put the air tip in the vent hole hit the trigger and push the grip on from the butt. These grips are so soft they will balloon up if you don't use a tube.

I sweat a lot and don’t bother with gloves. Lamkin Crossline cords gave me the best grip. However, any spongy feeling grip like the Chamois also works well for me. With my short fingers I haven’t tried anything larger than standard.

As stated in the other post, I've gone with Lamkins for several years after trying others. The Crossline Black is my fav, but they are/have been phased out, for some reason. They can still be found around the 'net for about $4/ea.. Value Golf seems to be the main seller and I should probably stock up. Again. I've also been looking at irons in stores and a lot have the Lamkin Z5, which seems like a great grip also; I think these also are being phased out. DTG has a great special going on these and I should probably try some, but all my clubs have new grips on them now. Lamkin grips just seem to never wear out & stay tacky throughout the season. I do clean them after every round, so that may have a lot to do with their durability. I really don't care for the CL black/white as that paint can cause them to get a slippery feel.
I used to wear a glove, but haven't in several years since changing to these grips. I will say that if you have 'soft' hands, these grips(CL Black) may be a bit rough for you.

Rickochet Rick, how are they when it's humid? How are they for size?

I play without a glove using GP Tour Wrap, but they are no bueno if there is moisture.

I don't know if I have played these on humid days. If I did there was no slippage issue that I would remember. Size wise I use the Jumbo's and they are large (+1/8"). They also come in standard and ladies.

Back in my no glove days, I liked the Star wrap grips -- they last forever, give them a good cleaning every few weeks and they're like new. I've moved onto the super jumbo DTG grips and gloves on both hands, but if I ever made a set for someone, it would be the Stars.

I like these grips although it's been some time since I used them.
I wear a glove but occasionally I play without it, except when using the driver.

Hands down it's the Lamkin Crossline.

If I'm going gloveless, it's a GP Tour Velvet or a Lamkin Crossline.

Interesting that no glove golfers many are choosing a firmer grip rather than softer. I would think it would be the other way around. 😉

braveheart Golf pride cp2 pro and wrap grips are comfortable and durable.

I agree. Been using the CP2 Pro for several years now. I think the Winns are softer, but they don't wear as well and don't clean as easily. I also find I don't need to add any extra tape under the lower half of the CP2 Pro like with most grips; the standard size seems like + 1/32".

I don't wear a glove either. The best grip that I ever found for wet conditions was a Karakal grip but I believe they went out of business. I haven't seen them for several years now. They actually had "The wetter the better" on the end of the grip and were fairly soft also. UST Mamaya had a grip called Soft Touch that was pretty good too. Right now I'm using the grips that came on my set of Cobras, the GP Tour Velvets. They are fairly comfortable but not great when it's wet out. I never liked them when I was in the business of clubmaking because they didn't last very long. You almost have to replace them yearly if you play a lot.
