Rickochet Very observant, and correct, assessment of the race and final outcome. Very, very smart move on the part of Prat to call for the inquiry also.
But....the judges should have had the inquiry sign flashing as the horses crossed the finish line. This showed a reluctance to take down the winner of the Derby, and the ensuing 20 min. further proves this. A jockey should never have had to make the protest. There were several instances of fouls during the race, and they cannot, and should never be, discounted due to the track conditions. otoh, the (too long) 20 min. review may well have included other possible infractions. They do have to review the complete race, several times over, during any type of protest. (only the jockeys and judges may make protests, btw, not owners/trainers)
