If you short side yourself a lot, the premium urethane balls do help. But then the question becomes would you face a more difficult pitch with the urethane ball, which might carry more side spin and put you further left or right to being with? I don't know how much further, if any. But I mostly use cheap balls -- I've been liking the Slazenger Raw Distance yellows the last couple of years. Most of the greens I play on are pretty firm, and I shoot at yardage to the front of the green, unless the hole is all the way in the back on some of the larger greens. We don't have a lot of forced carries where I play most of my rounds, so the lower spin balls work pretty well.
