I am +1/2" and 2* upright.
I played standard length and lie forever and after being fitted, I was much straighter with even divots. Before, my divots were toe heavy, the added length and upright lie flattened my divot and once I found my ball placement I was compressing the ball much more which made the Project X 5.5s I had feel amazing. They certainly felt much different with a steeper attack angle than when I was sweeping with the S-400s. I took the shallow toe divot and really didn't hit down on the ball. Having the right length and lie allowed a swing change that corrected the overall iron play. After getting fit 10 years ago I could hit my 6 iron 215 carry, which was a 4 iron before. It's like anything else, there can be several things you have learned to compensate for, but when you don't have to do that and the swing is clean, good things can happen.
