The root problem is the culture of the USGA and the mindset of USGA rules officials. Everything else is peripheral.

I see it all the time in blader jr's events: a rules official wanders by and can't help but insert himself into the competition.

As best I can conclude, his motivation is usually based upon an irresistible impulse to exercise his mastery over a vast matrix of rules arcaneae.

They aren't referees. They aren't meant to be referees. Yet they can't but help resist the urge to act like referees once the competition starts.

And, for whatever reason, golf attracts these fuckers like flies to dung.

No longer a sport of honor, or as you said....pricks. Unfortunate if that is the new mentality of the organization.

The US Amateur is being held 3 mile s from my house, but I won't be there as it is money in the USGA pockets. I voted on putters, was defeated, and vote with my wallet.

"No money for you!"

That money will be spent at an LPGA event instead.

I hope Blader Jr is having fun and continuing to play well.

Oooops, keep forgetting I have to send the USGA an invoice for my new 33" putter. #%*$'ers !!!

What good would it do? All they would do is ignore anything negative then rewrite the rule saying it is in response to all those responding to their request. The new rule will be even more ambiguous.

Another contributor to the problem is rules like this one, especially in its original form, were crafted under the apparent assumption that golfers would not act in good faith. (If a ball moves, golfers might say it was the wind even though they did it, so we craft the rule to say the golfer is deemed to have moved it under all circumstances.) Everyone is screwed if the ball moves for any reason, but it is apparently an acceptable price to pay for keeping dirty rotten cheaters from deceptively gaining an advantage.

I doubt when that rule was written there were greens running 15 on a stimp meter that a worm fart causes a ball to roll. A ball hung up in the rough, or a ball on a slope, sure, but not even addressing the ball, I don't think old or young Tom Morris would go for that.

Yeah, just like they wanted the PGA's input on the anchoring issue a few years ago.

They sincerely don't care what you think. They just want to make you think that they care about what you think, because they don't want to lose the dues revenue.
