pellmell I live in Allen, which is just East of Frisco. Haven't played in Frisco itself but have looked at many articles highlighting quality golf in north DFW.
For value, there's a Tour18 course which mimics famous American golf holes. They have Amen Corner, and the 17th @ Sawgrass. A couple years ago they tanked their greens somehow, but I believe they've recovered since then. Tribute is fairly close to Frisco and mimics famous European holes. Heritage Ranch is in Fairview, TX - a moderate drive from Frisco (30min?) but a very nice course in a retirement community.
For a premium price, Old American in Lewisville looks really nice and goes along the lake. For a super premium price, Cowboys Country Club is supposedly the nicest conditions around. My understanding is you pay for a day pass, which includes practice, golf, and unlimited meals at their course restaurant.
I don't know how familiar you are with TX... We had a surprising amount of (flooding) rain in September, then a cold snap. Courses that were underwater didn't have a lot of time to recover before winter, so you might encounter some disappointing conditions. I can vouch for Heritage Ranch being in great shape for winter, but some other tracks I like are struggling.
