It was also the 1st day of school for a bunch if districts. My wife had her 1st day with 21 Kindergarteners. She has to stand outside with them at dismissal time to hand them off to parents at 3pm for 20 minutes. She was exhausted when she got home.
I am also going to write my congressman and request a law making it illegal to do yard work in July and August. No one is outside looking at your yard during those months anyway. We are up to 18 heat related deaths so far this summer.
