We just started going back to Costco after a hiatus and my wife bought a monster-sized box of Eggo waffles.
I just came from the garage where we have a deep freezer and was looking for something to put in the fridge to thaw for dinner tonight. That's when I noticed this behemoth box of Waffles sitting next to the freezer.
The Waffles are soggy...and as of right now, I don't know if my wife or kids forgot to put them in the freezer when they were purchased a few days ago, or if they were sitting there for just today?
Google was an interesting ride as to the subject of frozen waffle safety outside the refrigerator. A lot of paranoia and ill informed opinions that they're still good.
Anyone have any experience with this? I'm one of these people who HATES wasting food. This would be very tough on my sensibilities to have to toss this box out. It was 80 degrees here the other day so if they've been sitting out since that day, I'd probably throw them out just out of paranoia like many commenters online. If they were sat out just for today, we had a high of 50 something, I would gladly chance it.
I'm very tempted to try toasting a couple and see what happens. I've had food posioning before and I literally thought I was dying so I don't want to invite that possibility back into my life.
What do you say? Eat'em or Toss'em?
EDIT: It's 4 something in the AM here and I heard my wife sleep talking. She was muttering about me talking to Mandy Moore on the phone. I can usually carry on a conversation with her when she's like that so I tried but she awakened very upset to be speaking about a box of waffles. I guesss she moved them Friday AM before work. So they've spent about 19 hours in 40-50 degree temps.
I'm going to toast ONE up and see what happens. Livin' on the edge, bay bay! Don't be hatin' because your life isn't half as exciting as mine.
