This is very sad. Maybe CC could have saved her, but as I go through my life as a CC holder it is pretty apparent that, unless you're willing to pull your gun at any time, you can still be taken by surprise.
On the golf course you could have the gun in your bag, but if someone comes upon you by surprise you're going to have a hard time getting it. And if someone is approaching in a non-threatening way like, "hey, excuse me, I dropped (whatever), have you seen one around?" are you going to be pulling out your gun? Someone like that could get within a couple feet of you, and if you're a couple feet from your zipped up bag, you're not getting the gun before they have you.
Reality seems to be that people with malicious intentions will always have an advantage - they know the confrontation is happening before the victim.
I see young women running/walking alone with headphones in their ears around my neighborhood. I do not recommend that. Hearing someone coming gives a better chance to at least be facing the person if/when they attack.
Tragic, and not at all political, IMO. Bad things happen to good people.
