Sneakylong On the other hand, Monte has a video called the "No Turn Cast Drill" in which he advocates for people to take a backswing without turning and to try to cast from the top as much as they possibly can.

He says that casting comes from other swing flaws and is nothing but a compensatory movement to make sure the club gets on the ball, and that if a decent player makes a decent backswing it is almost impossible for them to cast, even if they try. Instead, he says, they get better contact and hit the ball better.

Oh, and everybody turns on the backswing, even when they are thinking "no turn." The turn just becomes more natural.

I should probably link the video. For what it's worth, I've tried this both on the range and on the course, and I've hit some really good shots using these thoughts, "No turn, cast." It's surprising, but it seems to work pretty well.

I've seen it. He also showed it to the Be Better Golf guy as I seem to remember. Found it.

Sneakylong God, I hate the Be Better guy. He interrupts too much trying to look smart. I've don't remember the above video, but I bet the one by Monte himself is way better and clearer.

Sneakylong Mike Austin always advocated that you should never try and hold any angles.

I think that's the prevailing thought these days.

Mike Austin = throw the club and get that lower torso - hips moving. Bit hard for most of us old guys to get our hips moving ultra fast for fear of injury.

Bigborgel Interesting. I used Don's swing for a couple of years and really had good success with it. However, my experience was the opposite of yours. My success was with all the irons, but I couldn't swing a driver with it to save my life. In fact, I think it was because I had to use the rotary swing with the driver that I slowly migrated back to using it with all my clubs.

Yep, pretty much the standard with Trahan's swing, irons are good, driver not so much. I had pretty good success with it but I got to a point where to get better I needed a live instructor just to point some things out and couldn't find anybody. That's usually my problem with these alternative swings, you're pretty much on your own and are you really doing what you think you're doing.

sdandrea1 THIS!! There are lots of ways to get the club back to the ball in the right position for correct impact - to each his/her own. 😉

While that may be true, most people never find their own, hence why most people don't break 100. Swing your own swing sounds great unless your own swing sucks.

This guy also seems to have glommed onto the Frenchman's swing a bit:

Jtv This move reminds me of watching a skins game between Mike Weir, Greg Norman, and a couple of others (I think Fred Couples was there, too). As Mike was doing his pre-shot routine where he raised the club to waist level before each shot, he said to the others something like, "Sorry guys, this is just something I have to do. It's a habit." I believe it was Greg Norman who responded, "Are you kidding? There's no need to apologize for that move. I love it. I think everyone should do that before they swing." All the other guys chimed in in agreement.

So I'm back to the Trahan swing. I was fooling around with my SS radar in the yard and couldn't get it above 93 mph no matter what I tried. Tried the Trahan swing and hit 99 mph 4 swings in a row. Evidently for me swinging arms is faster than a body dominated swing.

That's interesting Gary. These swings were at range hitting balls?

Nope, just swinging in the yard, no saying how it will translate to the course. We'll find out Saturday.

garyt1957 It's almost an exact copy of Triangulaid, except that Stefane says that the width of the triangle is different for players of different skill levels, widest for beginners and it get tighter and tighter for lower handicap players.

That guy seems to be setting up the alignment sticks using the grip as his guide, so presumably he's advocating for everybody to have the same triangle, which, again, would not be what Triangulaid is advocating.

I think you will find when swinging at a ball speed changes.

scotts33 I think you will find when swinging at a ball speed I don't use the radar for exact speeds but to compare.

If you position correctly and use the shield with a Sports Sensors Golf Swing Speed Radar With Tempo Timer it can get good ball speed readings. Swinging at a ball will yield different speeds from my experience.

I use it a lot myself with the timer to get transition times as I use a Easiest/Triangulaid swing and good tempo and the same transition times or a huge factor when training yourself. ....using these specific types of swing doctrines. I am surprised that the Easiest guys Sparks/Meilor etal don't use the Sports Sensor with Tempo in their teaching.
