The postings here about big innings, etc., is reasonable when you are up a run or down several, but not in this situation.
The real issue with the players is about $$. When you negotiate your contract, no one remembers a sacrifice bunt or that it ends in an "out" and a lowering of your batting average. RBI's and batting average is the measure of your worth and pay check. Baseball needs an assist column for a sacrifice bunt, hitting to the opposite field, etc. that would be valued at contract time. With a runner on 2nd base, it is an RBI opportunity and most players today would be pissed if the coach asked them to bunt.
I enjoyed the game as a youth and still appreciate "small ball."
