Which beach on the Cape? This weekend is the last hurrah for businesses down there. My father had a retail sporting goods store on Rt. 28 in Harwich back in the 1970's. The day after Labor day was like someone turning off the light switch. Rt. 28 went from busy traffic to a ghost town overnight.
Best job I ever had was when I took a break from my fathers business (1973) and sold snow cones out of my 1966 Ford Econoline van on the 3 main beaches in Harwich. Also, sold Howard Johnsons soda. Both the snow cones and soda were .25 cents each. Made between $30.00 to $40.00 dollars a day working from 11 am to 4 pm. Not bad money for an 18 year old back in 1973. The views weren't bad either.
If you ever get a chance go play Cranberry Valley in Harwich. Great town owned course.
