ode
Yes, Martin had a real disability. I thought he should've been afforded a cart simply due to the precedent of the ADA.
Venturi and Nicklaus, however, both played in a different era when such circumstances weren't considered or brought into civil rights law. So to some extent, most of us can appreciate the old-school perceptions of those that came before, the conditions in which they were expected to compete, with no variance regarding disabilities or injury. Verplank... I think it's highly hypocritical, after the fact, to be a turncoat regarding his history on the matter.
Nicklaus didn't get roasted over his stance on the matter, so I'm not sure why Venturi would be singled out and treated any differently from Jack. I think they (Venturi, Nicklaus, Verplank) were ultimately on the wrong side of the argument, but I also respect their counter argument that using a cart affords a player an advantage over those who have to walk.
I was merely pointing out that if you're gonna use the out-of-shape, smoking and drinking generation to make a point - at least make sure that the victim in the modern times doesn't have a history of suffering from the same vices.
