As most of you know, I am in a transition period as I try to replace the clubs I had stolen. In the meantime, I have put a set of Acer XV Professional irons and an XV driver in my bag and I am REALLY impressed.
The driver is fun to hit. I love the feel and the sound of it (much like the sound and feel of the mini-Thriver that was stolen). I had heard that these drivers placed a premium on forgiveness and weren't that long, but I certainly didn't notice that. Forgiveness, yes, but I hit a couple of real bombs and most of my drives were exactly where I would expect them to be.
The XV irons not only look good both in the bag and at address, but they play really well, too. I found them as nice to hit as any other iron and they were quite spectacular on off-centre hits. I don't have the irons fit for me and am just playing the Apollo shafts that were in them (they're about 3/4" short for me), so I hit a few shots a bit ugly. I was really surprised by how little I was punished on these mis-hits.
I wouldn't hesitate to keep these clubs in my bag and may even do so. It's just that the insurance company is paying to replace my considerably pricier set of clubs so...
