According to the rumor mill, Lavar leaked Lonzo's knee injury and looming surgery so that the Lakers would find it more difficult to trade Lonzo.
And it will be difficult to trade him. The Spurs don't want him or the sideshow circus that comes with his father tagging along. Boston ain't interested in him. OKC doesn't need him. Houston ain't interested. And about a dozen other teams out there, mostly on the west coast, aren't interested. The only teams interested are teams that aren't playoff contenders. This is ultimately gonna backfire on Lavar, if true. His boy's days in LA is numbered.
Lonzo is gonna ride the bench next season. Papa Lavar ain't gonna be happy about that. LeBron is interested in winning a title, not babysitting. LeBron's fingerprints were all over the Rondo deal. He's a step ahead of the game. He doesn't want the distractions. He simply wants to win, and he wants management to surround him with players who are more mature, more developed, and focused on helping make his team postseason contenders, type A guys, not passive players. Lonzo simply doesn't fit into LeBron's equation for another title run. He doesn't see him making a difference now, nor two years from now.
He wants teammates who are all-in, no distractions, all about business. And it won't be easy to piece together a team of star players who are willing to take a backseat to LeBron. But that's the goal. And the onus is on Magic to get it done.
He's getting ready to understand just how difficult it was for the owner/GM to satisfy LeBron in Cleveland.
But Lonzo is pretty much gonzo. Good riddance to Lavar if it happens. Daddy Ball's 30 seconds of fame window is closing quickly.
