I played in an 8-inch cup tournament several years back and we went out as 8-somes, to help prevent cheating and keep everything on the up-n-up. It was a 6-hour round both days (2-day tournament).
In November no less, and the high was 45º both days, and windy.
I signed up with the guys again to playing the tournament the following year (we finished 2nd the year prior), but it was even colder and more dreary. As much as I wanted to keep the tradition going, the tournament entry fees were $200/player and I just couldn't justify being that cold and miserable for back-to-back 6-hour rounds.
The only scramble tournament that I participate in these days is at the club where I'm a member. They generally host a 1-man scramble each spring (players get to play two balls and pick the best shot of their choosing). It's a fun tournament, I actually won it back in 2014 with a score of 62. But outside of that event - I'm pretty much shying away from scramble fundraisers. I'd rather simply make a donation to the cause and not have to deal with being miserable for 5+ hours, usually playing with people I don't know much of the time.
