If you do a fitting on Ping's website for graphite irons you'd see that they recommend stiff flex if you hit your 7 iron 125 yards and up. Regular is for 105 yards - 120 yards and soft regular under 105 yards with a 7 iron.
That seems odd. I've called Ping about this and can't get a straight answer. When I got fit for my Ping G's I told the fitter and he couldn't believe it. He fitted me with regular flex which I agreed with. I just went with the same specs on the G400's.
I don't think flex matters all that much when it comes to irons anyway. I've read where Tom Wishon has said you'd have to be at least two flexes off to maybe notice a difference. And then there are You Tube videos showing guys hitting irons in stiff, regular and ladies flex and there's no discernible difference in the numbers.
For me the weight and feel are at the top of the list when it comes to shafts. Also, as you probably know Ping doesn't automatically adjust the swing weight accounting for the lighter graphite. You have to request it. So D0 in steel will be either C8 or C9 in Reg or Stiff.
I had mine swing weighted to D1. Ping uses different weighted removable weights to adjust the swing weight which makes it easy for them to do. I believe the weights are in 2 gram increments, so it's easy to get the swing weight you want.
Also, this is the first time they did ascending weights in their graphite shafts.
Anyway, hope you like your new irons.
