I have broken my left leg playing hockey a couple times. First time was the fibula just above the ankle. Went to stop next to the boards, right at the Zamboni entrance, ended up feet first into the boards. Felt it hurt, thought I just jammed my ankle. Finished the game, walked into the Doctor's office the next day, got an x-ray, spiral fracture. Second time, I don't even know what happened, think I may have gotten the slew foot. IMMEDIATELY knew I was screwed, fell to the ice in pain, went to move, and my foot didn't want to go with my leg. Broken tib/fib, fibula in two places. Ambulance, ER, home with a cast. 1 week later, had a 330mm X 10mm rod inserted into the tibia, held with screws at each end. Next day, with crutches, walked up and down the hall and up and down stairs, then went home. Back to work, and hockey, in about 3-4 months. Still had pain and stiffness, took about a year to be fully recovered.
