Happened just off the coast of Portugal, back on Saturday.
The closest I've personally come to surfing was unintentional, as I mistakenly stepped on my son's boogie board during a family vacation down in Myrtle a hundred or so years ago while trying to take a family pic on the beach. Camera survived. The pic was blurry for obvious reasons and didn't make the cut. I won't even get into the shower now if there's not a suction-cup non-slip mat laying down. Still have nightmares about that alcohol-related incident (according to the wife). Yet alcohol had f-ing nothing to do with it. You step on a styrofoam flotation device in the water, unexpectedly, you're gonna end up on your ass.
And I got absolutely no credit for salvaging an $800 camera.
But I digress....
Not into extreme sports, other than my one extreme to the other golf game. And I don't know how much weed one has to smoke, or how much cocaine one has to snort, to willfully get in the ocean with what amounts to a wooden plank with a sharp dorsal fin on it to catch an 8-story wave.
All I will say is that this guy is crazy and obviously has a pair of ginormous testicles to go along with very few functioning brain cells.
Do any of you surf? Or have you in the past? This looked like a suicide mission to me.
From the article:
"The World Surf League says Rodrigo Koxa has ridden the biggest wave ever surfed. At the group's Big Wave Awards in Santa Monica on Saturday, it said its judges determined that a wave Koxa surfed at Nazare, Portugal, on Nov. 8 was 80 feet high."
